New CSR initiatives: Toms Chocolate turns green?
In a lengthy article on www.Business.dk says CEO Jesper Møller about chocolate factory Toms engergiplaner. The strategy aims to reduce chocolate and sweets group's emissions of greenhouse gases by 30 percent annually over the next four years compared to 2008. Such an action would make Tom's one of the greenest and CO2-friendly production companies in Denmark. Jesper Moller talks also about the possibility of using electric vehicles in the future.
Is energy the proper social concern for Tom?
It's good that Tom wants to contribute to a better climate, while having a positive publicity in the media. Should you be a little critical of Tom's question could well be the "action" could be better spent elsewhere? Is this the optimal way to use social resources? Is another area could indeed be child labor in Ghana, where Tom buys cocoa. Here, Tom's somewhat in advance - see more here .
Which CSR efforts work best?
But maybe Tom would show greater social responsibility by stepping up the effort forward to also turn to energy - the emerging interest may be due to the 2009's climate summit in Denmark? CSR has largely become a communication tool in improving corporate image.
